6/5/97 Impact
Dear Friends:
(If it is welcome and a blessing, send it on to others,Lee)
Every now and then, I wonder how much impact do I have in people's lives. Yesterday I was talking to a friend of mine and he said that he climbed to the mountain top nearby his home and God had given him a scripture and when he opened his computer, he saw the same scripture, "I will never leave you or forsake you".
As I was walking this morning I was meditating on it. I always wonder how far this letter always goes and whether I am having impact on people's lives. He said He would never leave me. As I got in front of a home where I hadn't been for a while, a very large, very angry dog came sailing down the hill at me and began to bark about a 10 feet away from me. I was instantly reminded of a similar attack I had experienced with not so good results when I was a child (mauled comes to mind). And yet I was able to yell the word (not words!) "get". Doesn't seem like much does it. Fortunately, this bewildered look overtook him and he began to back away. I really never missed a beat and continued praying.
A single word. Think about it. My son said to me last night on the way back from cell group, he thought the worst thing would be a Chinese water torture, single drops of water dripping on your forehead. (Have you ever wondered who had the patience or the forethought to come up with this idea? Sorry, I always wonder what the source of something is. My kids will tell you my questions about Christian music and what does a song mean, isn't satisfied by "I don't know".)
Scripture compares this: a continual dropping of rain and contention. It erodes at your being, your peace. What is the opposite here?
A single drop of water multiplied many times. A single word multiplied many times. So as I have been meditating on the smallness of things (as was my friend) compared to the bigness of God, well...humility flooded in. (and my wife says, Amen!) I realize that my single words may have seemingly no impact, and yet my prayer is that these words do go on and help someone. If it is but one person, it is more than enough. If each one of us concentrated on one person, asked God to cross our path with one person with a need for a Saviour, for Jesus, and we spoke the Words of our Lord, the mountains and the ramparts of the enemy would fall.
Each one of us today is but a small part of a big picture, but without you this big picture is missing pieces. Today, see yourself as an important piece of the puzzle. See yourself as that drop of water that allows a vessel to overflow, that the waters of revival may fall on thirsty, dry lands. It only takes one drop of water to break the hydrogen bonding that allows a glass of water to rise above the rim. Are you that drop of water?
Selah.
Shalom.
We pray for you, each and every day. If this is an encouragement to you. Please tell us, and please email it to someone else. If you have a prayer request, please mail it to us. We want to stand with you, battling spiritual wickedness, seeing people made free. We want to serve our brother and sister.
