7/28/97 Servants
Dear Friends:

(If it is welcome and a blessing, send it on to others,Lee)

Servants.

Are you there?

Servanthood is something that I see being removed from the church in so many ways. Jesus was our servant, as is seen in almost every area of His life. He served man, denying Himself those things that He might have thought "good" for Himself. It is not because someone is a pastor or church leader that they learn to serve. Serving God is something that grows in your life. But many people miss some key servant opportunities. How many of you are married or have children? Are you a servant to them? Do you put your needs aside in order to serve them?

How about your place of employment? Do you serve your employer with all your heart? As someone who has seen many churches, I realize that there is often an emphasis on getting. There is a place where I see that many do not want to serve. I confess to having taken part in some of that.

Being a servant to others places you in a position of denying your own desires to do what Jesus did for you. Too frequently I sit with couples whose "head of household" has chosen toys over needs. Too frequently the young person who has placed themselves in bondage to a creditor over something that doesn't even run.

Being a servant is not self serving, but denying oneself. As we come closer to the Lord, His servanthood is evident. I feel less worthy of operating for Him now than I did a year ago. Being a servant fights your flesh, the world.

And yet instead of struggling for leadership, helping another lifts you in the sight of the Lord.

In my own life, God is allowing me to look at the true natures of His life here on earth. Today, if each one of us could grasp this concept, with a spouse, a friend, a parent; doing something for them in place of a want of ours, I believe there would chains released in others lives. Our "Christianity" would have effect.

Shalom.

Selah.

Shalom.
