1/28/98 Meditation

For those who responded to my question regarding dance ministry, I want to say thank you. We are still seeking videos on dance and banner worship. But to those who have already responded, thank you. I will write you more directly later this week. And for those who expressed the desire to come visit this church, may I extend a welcome with ((open arms))!

Last night we discussed the body-oikos. A greek word meaning house, specifically those within the house. It is in our useage the believer's normal contacts within work, home, and daily comings and goings.

Why are we discussing such an odd sounding word("hey, its all greek to some of us!") and its effect on the body of Christ? Because you and I are to be the church and advance the Kingdom. To do that we have to have a daily effect on others. So our cell of 12 was asked to describe the effects they have on people in work and home and while they are out and about. The reason; that they would begin to develop ministry that would tear down the walls of the enemy. We are talking about a lifestyle of affecting people, continuously, day by day.

And I promised that I would share on meditation, but the above will give you something to "meditate" on!

Meditation is used in the greek(NT) only a few times(3) meaning to care for, attend to carefully, and to practice.

We are told to meditate on the Word, Mary pondered what she had been told by the angel. What does that mean?

It means to chew up. Take a word or phrase and begin to look at it like it is a knot in a piece of rope. Turn it around, look at the "unseen". Untie it, examine it. You will find that as you begin to speak a phrase that you have "dogested" this way, it begins to have the life that the Bible talks about. It becomes living word. It goes from being "logos", the word that we maintain in our head, to becoming that "rhema", that word indicating it has gone toour hearts and become one with our spirit, "that we know that we know".

Great! How do I begin? Find a scripture that may have previously avoided you, usually something that has great meaning to your life. I give you this suggestion; John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Find a quiet place with no interruptions. Look at that scripture. Ask the Holy Ghost to begin to reveal to you the meaning of this. How can it change your life? What is its context(scriptures before and after), who was it to? If you have felt trapped and things have tightened. this time is valueable to you(perhaps this scripture is valueable to you!). Make an effort to memorize the scriptures you are "chewing on", placing them on cards where they are visible to you. This time of meditation is private and productive. You may read and pray, but you will find this time brings the revelation knowledge we pray for in your lives.

Christianity and God have always told us to meditate, and yet the majority of us confuse it with the devil's counterfeit, found in so many cults. They have learned the power of meditation. It is time we the Christian, begin to embrace it and harness the power God has given us. There are nuggets of gold and veins of silver in the Word of God and that cursory reading, that pat on the cheek prayer just doesn't cause us to receive the fullness of God.

Ephesians 6 speaks of the armour of God and there is in those scriptures the "preparation of the Gospel of Peace". Brothers and sisters, meditation is the preapration of the Gospel of Peace!

I mentioned above "oikos" and its effect on you. Until you and I plug into the ministry of the Kingdom of God, advancing His Kingdom, the body of Christ is handicapped. Selah!(this means to ponder, to meditate, and to think about!!!)

Selah.

Shalom.

We pray for you, each and every day. If this is an encouragement to you. Please tell us, and please email it to someone else. If you have a prayer request, please mail it to us. We want to stand with you, battling spiritual wickedness, seeing people made free. We want to serve our brother and sister.
