1/26/98 Prayer

As we have dug out from another Vermont landscaping(snow), I had the opportunity to look around and see the covering of ice over all the snow. When I was a child we used to skate on this, because it would solidify 2-3 inches. I watched the sun reflect off everything. Simply gorgeous. It reflected the brilliance of the sun so that it hurt your eyes. I began to think that when Moses came off the mountain He was carrying the Glory of the Son, to the place where no one could look at him. Being on the mountain he began to carry the reflection of the Son. He became more like Him.

Do we desire to become more like Him?

Last week I spoke of prayer and time spent with Him. I received many comments and requests to receive our prayer "overflow". Prayer, that spending time with Him, gives us the opportunity to develop a character more like Him. When I pray for someone, I usually find that God begins to reveal my heart attitudes about situations and people. And at that point have two choices. The first is to react and say "No, I won't change that" or begin to really look at my desire to be more like Him.

And either I have not taken enough time with Him or He has more to show me, because lately I have dream upon dream. But I want to reflect Him. And I recognize that He is within, so perhaps I want be so transparent that He is available to all those I come in contact with. I imagine that when Moses arrived they weren't concentrating on the humaness of Moses. When I look into the face, seek His face, there is nothing else that matters.

I see the power of prayer so visibly, that I just want to pray more. I have noticed major changes in my daughter and son. I see people's lives so dramatically changed in the church.

Yesterday, we began in worship, moved to praise, went back to worship and then an older woman in the church came over and said(after she was in her seat having a really hard time with what the Lord was leading her to do!!!), came up and gave me some words(I was playing worship on the drums) and said "the Lord is telling me that we have the victory, and if we will march around the room seven times and take authority, many of the problems we have had will be gone". I looked at our key board player, gave her the word spoken, shared it with the congregation and she broke into "one of us can put a thousand to flight...", the church rose up and began to storm the gates of hell. At the end of it, one of the new ladies began a cheer for Jesus. And when we were all done God asked me to change my message and speak on religious spirits.

We couldn't have done this a year ago. People were in such great bondage. Prayer shapes and changes things so incredibly. While adult church was going on I took the kids and began to help them with their prayer lives. These children want to talk to God. They simply believe His power is real.

The other day I spoke with a Jewish man converted to Buddhism, whom I had to talk to because of a situation in the church. And I think he just wanted to get me off the line, because I found myself witnessing to him. He told me he was into Buddhist meditation(mention meditation in church-tomorrow's subject-and most will tell you they don't and yet there is power in it) so I followed him down the road asking him questions about whether he was doing better. He told me he wasn't "into religion", so I helped him understand that he was. Fortunately I will meet with him again and prayer will soak him.

Prayer. As we begin this week and begin to pray as the Lord would lead, I believe I am going to hear from you many of the changes that are going on in your lives and those around you.

Selah.

Shalom.
