4/4/98 The Bus

Missing the bus.

Have you ever missed the bus? Even setting your alarm, you just "forgot" to get up" Maybe you just missed that appointment by minutes and it seemed like you would never catch up the rest of the day.

When I was a salesman, Tina (my wife of weeks), would say to me, "how do you manage all these appointments?" I would carry this appointment book with all these clients and schedule it so tightly that it seemed virtually impossible. And maybe it was. I would book and doublebook clients just to cover myself. And then I would miss one...

Panic. How could I do this? I "missed the bus."

Yesterday, Tyler missed the bus and the result was he had to walk nearly an hour and a half to school. Pain is a result of missing the bus.

And as Christians we need to recognize that "delayed obedience is disobedience." There is no way around it. God tells us to do something and we say "ok" and then not do it. Is it a big deal? I ask you this; how many times would you tolerate a youngster running toawrds the street before you would "step" in? I don't think it would be many!

And one of the things I notice is the lackadaisical, apathy filled approach to God. Isn't it time we started to do what He has asked us and stop "missing the bus?"

My heart's desire is to see the church come to the fullness of its power and might. Do we think God is going to place that power into the hands of children who aren't obedient to His voice? I know that God desires to see His children win the victory He has already placed in our hands, by simply walking it out in obedience.

If you are planted and rooted and grounded in the things of love and obedience, your walk will be one of victory, but to walk away from the knowledge of God, disobediently stepping out of where He has placed you will certainly bear fruit of evil.

Get on the bus that God has told you to. Go where He has asked you. Do what He has told you. And the result is that you will be a the destination God has set before you.

Selah.

Shalom.
