Disciple.
Learning, following precepts and instructions. The word disciple means in this case one who follows. But it also means to teach and instruct. John 6:
60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? (He essentially told them there is but one way!!!)
61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? (Were they concerned about the offerings getting smaller? Maybe they were concerned about their friends?!?!)
62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? ("And if I am right," Jesus says here.)
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. (Do not rely on your own wisdom.)
64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. (Holy Ghost insight!)
65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.
66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. (Sometimes we are too concerned with offerings and numbers, and not enough Gospel.)
67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? (Ok, boys. What about you? Have I hurt you, too?)
68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. ("Basically, Jesus. YES! But where can we go? Its your football!!!))
69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. (So start listening!)
70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? (Ever thought why He did this???)
71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve. (Did He make a mistake? Ever think about the strength of the 11 after the betrayal? Somewhere there is a message for us here. See, Jesus still washed His feet and showed Judas love. We could learn this.)
Last night I brought the discipleship program to the youth group. I spent an hou plus at their request going over questions about life and death, drugs, alcohol, sex, dating, abortion and the like. How can a church not deal with it, when they already are dealing with it? 9 young people. And while I thought we would have one, maybe two-God encouraged 7 to this work. They talked about the cheating factor (immediate expulsion from youth group), and how they thought it was fair, and yet wouldn't it be worse to go to hell for not following Jesus. (They only cheat by telling their friends they are doing the work when they aren't.) One thought that the requirement to witness to someone was too hard until he realized that underclassmen counted!!!
As I finished all the work for it(making worksheets, etc.) I saw that most adults could benefit from it. Shouldn't we learn to spend time with Jesus, pray, read our Bible, memorize(learn it!) scripture, be a witness once a week and go to church?
Maybe Jesus' words are too hard for some people. The Gospel is hard for people to swallow. I am encouraging the youth to focus on Jesus. They are excited about having boundaries, and the possibility of seeing Jesus begin to win their schools. Shouldn't we be that enthusiastic.
Selah.
Shalom.
We pray for you, each and every day. If this is an encouragement to you. Please tell us, and please email it to someone else. If you have a prayer request, please mail it to us. We want to stand with you, battling spiritual wickedness, seeing people made free. We want to serve our brother and sister.
