4/17/98 Cleaning the Garage

Cleaning the garage.

You never know where the words come from. Unlike my brother, David and my wife who are true "studious" students of the Word, I am often guided by a vision or dream(that lines up with the Word!!!-Please don't go off saying "dreams that's the way!") that guides me to pray, or to share. This morning I started down one path, when Tina came in and asked me to repair her windshield wiper. Easy. I took the one off my car and placed it on hers. And I am believing for no rain!!!

But in the process I opened the garage door for a tool. Aagh! The garage. Formerly housing an 1979 MGB I was going to restore(for sale-I promise-know anyone???), a motorcycle (gone), the church equipment... while our cars sat out all winter.

So...the garage needs to be hoed out. Know anyone who needs a cash register, an IBM typewriter, etc..

What relevance does this have to our Christian walk? Nothing so spiritual as our lives reflect the interiors. (Not bad though. In my case with what I have told you-you would think my interior is a sanctuary(church stuff), with great administrative skills(typewriter), prosperous(the cash register), and a heart for the English (MGB). My wife would (alas) tell you different. She would tell you I am a packrat, with way too many things going on. And because she throws out just about anything that has gather a particle of dust, there is more room for my stuff!!! My wife is the James of the outfit. Practical, precise, brief, no-nonsense. We took a little test once. It showed her to be industrious, busy as a beaver. Me. I was the otter.

But before you think I have lost the focus. I haven't. What's the garage of your soul look like? Is it black and cavernous, in dire need of the cleansing power of Holy Ghost to come and visit? Or is it a place that you feel comfortable with the Lord visiting? Not that we are all evil, but let's face facts. Quite often a garage accumulates, that which we could easily do without. Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Many of us need to remove some weight from our life. What is it that causes us to hold on to those things we don't need.Is it fear or pride? Is it doubt? These are sins before the Lord that need to be confessed so that we may be forgiven and run unhindered.

A garage is a challenge to me, just as deciding what I will "keep". The reality of it is, if I go through "kenosis", (as Jesus did-giving up Godly attributes to become a man) giving up worldly attributes to become more like Him, and allow Him to decide(this is akin to my letting my wife at my desk!!!) what is to stay and what is to go, I am going to feel the pain. But...can we not trust Him to do the best job?

Amazing this came out of windshield wiper repair.

Have a great weekend.
